Talking Translation: Hels Kure (Estonian)
Estonian translator Hels Kure talks about the trickier parts of translating humour and wordplay in Nat Amoore’s MG novels.
Hello! I’m Dr Lara Cain Gray. I’m the quintessential book nerd, an incurable condition given my background in library and museum curatorship, academic research and corporate and creative writing. I have an ever-expanding knowledge of children’s books built through a lifetimes’ advocacy and passion for storytelling. My picture book collection alone deserves its own postcode.
I’ve recently channelled all of this into my book, The Grown-Up’s Guide To Picture Books, forthcoming with the wonderful team at MidnightSun Publishing. It’s a picture-book-for-adults that upskills parents and carers to enjoy deeper reading of picture books with their children – or just for themselves. I can’t wait to share it with you!
In the meantime, I’m working on an eye-opening exposé on the translation of Australian picture books and writing a couple of picture books of my own.
Want to work together? I do! Please feel free to get in touch.
